Classic vs Main: What Changes for Players

What Classic keeps from old Lineage II versus what Main (Live) changed: level cap, class structure, buff culture, progression systems, and which version fits which player.

At a glance

  1. 1Classic uses third professions and sub-100 level curves; Main uses dual classes to 110+
  2. 2Main adds Virtual Equipment System, session zones, and modern rework classes ('Warg', Samurai)
  3. 3Classic expects multi-window buffs; Main can solo dailies on one client
  4. 4Elemental spirits and five-star defense gate Classic 85+ content
  5. 5Main iterates classes frequently; Classic adds gear and zones more than reworks

Combat and buff culture

Classic sieges assume long buff lists, Cardinal 'Celestial Party', and Paladin Sacrifice. Main compresses power into account systems and shorter daily instances.

Economy shape

Both use World Trade. Classic Adena comes from holding static spots; Main mixes session timers and account-wide weekly clocks. Classic spirit evolution and brooch gems are the long grinds Main replaced with collection-style systems.

PvP culture

Classic wars last months with manual logistics. Main wars compress into scheduled content and higher burst damage from modern skills.

Progression speed

Main reaches 105+ in weeks with dailies. Classic 80–90 stretch can take weeks of spot time per level on a mature server without boosts — plan psychology accordingly.

Same names, different systems

Talisman, brooch, and cloak exist in both versions but upgrade paths differ. Do not assume Main guide enchant targets apply to Classic.

Linked names open L2Playbook pages when that skill, item, class, NPC, or zone exists in the database. Values can change with patches — always double-check in-game.

FAQ

Which version is harder?+

Classic is slower and more social/contested. Main is faster paced with more solo-friendly dailies.

Can I transfer characters?+

No. Classic and Main are separate clients and account paths.
