What changed · catch-up · reroll vs resume

Returning to Classic in 2026

For players coming back to Classic after years away: renamed systems, class-change coupons, spirit defense requirements, bard duration changes, Random Craft, and a two-week catch-up checklist.

At a glance

  1. 1Classic = Classic on this site — third professions, not Live dual classes
  2. 2Resume an old character if level 76+; reroll only if you hate the class
  3. 3Buy/store class-change coupons when sales run (~twice yearly)
  4. 4Immediately restart spirit stars — 85+ content assumes them
  5. 5Bard buffs last 20 minutes now, not two minutes

What to unlearn

Manual dwarf craft for S-grade, short bard rebuff loops, backstab assassin farms, and naked ToI power-leveling are obsolete. Random Craft, 20-minute songs, autoplay, and spirit defense replaced them.

Finding people

Returnee-friendly clans recruit for activity, not gear. Offer consistent hours — Classic values reliability over sheet.

Skill bar reset

After years away, export or screenshot your old macro layout if available. Class-change resets skills — relearn from Game Assistant skill shop with SP refunds on coupon reroll.

Returning to sieges

Expect Wind Rider mirrors and Cardinal 'Celestial Party' timing. Your old Shillien Knight debuff win conditions rarely apply — resistance changed the game.

Linked names open L2Playbook pages when that skill, item, class, NPC, or zone exists in the database. Values can change with patches — always double-check in-game.

FAQ

Should I use my old level 83?+

Yes, unless you dislike the class. Level and hidden power beat a fresh 40.

What changed for bards?+

'Bladedancer' and 'Swordsinger' buff durations were extended massively — less micro, more macro.

Is my old archer still good?+

'Phantom Ranger' and 'Sagittarius' still farm; they still lose late PvE to 'Storm Screamer'.
