Live Client Performance Settings (Multi-Box)

Practical Live client tuning for low-end PCs and multi-boxing: hardware priorities, graphics/sound/UI toggles, and why “Reduce system load” must stay off on your active farmer.

Hardware priorities

Tune for the busiest moment you actually play: a crowded town, a contested Dethrone pack, or several active clients. A quiet solo field gives falsely optimistic results.

CPU and cooling

The Live client frequently bottlenecks on one main thread. Total CPU usage can show 25% while one core is saturated. This is normal: compare sustained clock speed and per-core load, not only the overall percentage.

  • Use the Windows Balanced or performance-oriented power mode while playing. On a laptop, plug in power and use the manufacturer’s normal/performance thermal profile.
  • If frame rate starts high and collapses after 15–30 minutes, check temperatures and clock speed. Dust, blocked vents, or an aggressive silent profile can erase the benefit of good hardware.

RAM, commit, and storage

Each client adds private memory, shared assets, and driver overhead. Measure after every character has loaded the actual hunting zone. Leave several gigabytes for Windows; do not size a multi-box plan from the login screen.

Graphics settings — cut cost in the right order

Alt+P is a useful emergency preset, not the final configuration. Start low, restore information you need for play, then add quality only while frame pacing remains stable.

A repeatable tuning pass

  • Press Alt+P to establish a low baseline, relog if a setting does not visibly apply, and enter a busy location.
  • Restore character and monster distance until you can identify targets before auto-hunt reaches them.
  • Raise effects only enough to see boss mechanics, hostile ground effects, and your own important skill state.
  • Raise textures last if memory headroom exists. They improve readability without the shadow cost, but excessive VRAM use can create severe hitching.

Sound and interface settings

A farm client needs alerts, not a full soundtrack. The interface should expose failures quickly without spending every frame updating panels you never read.

  • Hide other players’ pets, cloaks, transformations, and unnecessary nameplates where the client offers those options.
  • Keep your target, party, auto-hunt, supplies, and important buff timers visible during setup. Collapse chat channels that continuously scroll.
  • After confirming the loop is healthy, Alt+H removes interface panels. Restore them periodically to check shots, potions, inventory weight, deaths, and a stuck target.

Multi-box workflow

The goal is not to make every window equally fast. Protect the combat client, give reaction-critical assistants enough time, and aggressively limit passive windows.

Launch and setup order

  • Start the main client first, enter the destination, and confirm stable performance before adding boxes.
  • Launch one additional client at a time. Wait until zoning and asset loading settle before judging memory or frame rate.
  • Place windows predictably. Keep the main large; stack passive clients where HP, target, and auto-hunt state remain visible.
  • Set follow, assist, macros, supplies, and recovery behavior. Verify each box completes several target cycles while unfocused.
  • Apply per-application background caps in the GPU control panel when available. Test after a driver update because profiles can reset.

Dethrone and crowded-zone profile

Dethrone combines dense packs, frequent transformations, other players, and burst effects. Use a dedicated profile before entry rather than changing options while contested.

  • Enter early when possible so shader/model loading finishes before the active farm window.
  • If a contested pack freezes, first cut character count and effects. Lowering texture quality mid-session may not help a CPU-bound crowd.
  • Keep the main window focused. Do not inspect an idle box during a dangerous pull if inactive throttling changes focus behavior.

Change one variable

Record the location, client count, foreground/background state, average FPS, and worst stutter. Change one option, repeat the same route, and keep only changes that improve the actual symptom.

  • Restart after driver or major client updates before troubleshooting.
  • Keep sufficient free SSD space and exclude no security software unless you understand the risk. Use official repair/verification paths for damaged client files.
  • If the whole PC pauses, inspect memory, disk activity, temperatures, and background updates. If only movement rubber-bands, inspect the connection.

  • Recheck profiles after major updates; option names and defaults can change.
  • Test supplies and auto-hunt for five minutes unfocused before leaving a multi-box group unattended.
  • Prefer stability, readable danger, and reliable automation over a high screenshot FPS number.

FAQ

Why does auto-hunt feel broken on a second window?+

In-game Reduce system load throttles an inactive client so hard that targeting, potion use, movement, and the auto-hunt loop can update late. Keep it off on every window that must react in combat. Cap true background clients near 20 FPS through the GPU driver instead.

Should I drop render distance?+

Not as a first move. A farmer needs to see mobs, hostile players, and whether a spot is occupied. Cut shadows, antialiasing, cloaks, effects, and town entity counts first. Reduce distance only when the CPU still cannot hold a stable combat frame rate.

Why does the client stutter even though GPU usage is low?+

Lineage II Live is often limited by one busy CPU thread, asset streaming, or memory pressure rather than total GPU load. Watch per-core CPU usage, confirm the game is on an SSD, and check whether RAM has filled before replacing the graphics card.

Is a large Windows page file bad?+

No. A system-managed or generously sized page file on an SSD is safer than running out of committed memory during multi-box sessions. Paging is slower than RAM, but a crash is worse. Do not disable it to chase a benchmark score.

Why are towns much slower than hunting zones?+

Towns combine many player models, cosmetics, pets, shops, nameplates, and animation effects. That creates CPU draw-call and object-management pressure. Lower visible player/NPC counts and hide cloaks, pets, transformations, and private-store clutter before lowering texture quality.

Should every box run at 20 FPS?+

No. The active farmer should run at the highest stable cap your system can hold without overheating or starving other windows. Idle buffers and town traders can sit near 20 FPS. A healer or assistant that must react quickly may need 30 FPS.

Does Alt+H improve performance?+

Usually a little, especially with several windows. It removes interface panels and their frequent updates, but it does not replace graphics tuning. Start macros and auto-hunt first, then use Alt+H; restore the interface whenever you need to verify supplies or targeting.

Why did performance get worse after a patch?+

First let the client finish patching, restart Windows, and revisit settings because major updates can reset options. If stutter persists, verify free SSD space, clear only officially supported client caches, and test one clean client before blaming multi-box load.
