Live Brooch & Precious Gems Guide

How La Vie En Rose’s Brooch works on Live: upgrade path from the main quest through Shadai and Head Blacksmith, what each gem slot is for, when to swap into Garnet / Cat’s Eye / Amber, and which Orbs are worth crafting.

At a glance

  1. 1Starter brooch is free from the main quest — push it to Lv.5 at Shadai in Heine, then Greater+ with Crystals of Dawn
  2. 2Phys: Ruby + Red Cat’s Eye · Mage: Sapphire + Blue Cat’s Eye — fill the rest by content
  3. 3ToI debuff zones → Garnet + Cat’s Eye · leveling → Vital Stone · cooldown kits → Greater Aquamarine
  4. 4Wind Orb is the best orb value · skip Water Orb · craft Amber with Chaotic Ether as soon as ToI floor 1 feeds you
  5. 5Brooch enchant damage and short damage-trigger are real power spikes — treat the piece as more than “just defense”

What the brooch actually does

La Vie En Roses Brooch' is the Live accessory that holds your jewel sockets. It is defensive on paper — resist lines, inventory slots, later CHA/stats — but the piece also carries a short damage trigger, is relatively easy to enchant into meaningful damage, and scales hard once Greater / Top-grade gems start stacking set-style passives.

Defense role
Damage-type resists and survival lines from the accessory itself plus Diamond / Pearl / Obsidian / Cat’s Eye
Offense role
Short damage-amp trigger · enchant damage (about +5% is a realistic early target) · Ruby / Sapphire / Cat’s Eye crit lines
Toucher bonus
Luck-friendly jewel lines (Emerald and related) matter more on touch / skill-luck kits
Greater gem passive
Socking enough Greater or higher jewels unlocks extra brooch passives — Max HP and a strong short battle amp (Energy of Rhapsody–style M.Atk spike on stacked kits)

Upgrade path

You do not buy the starter brooch. You grow it.

  • Do not sit on the quest brooch at low rank — Shadai upgrades are cheap relative to the slot unlocks.
  • Crystals of Dawn are the long-term gate after Lv.5. Farm or buy them on World Trade; every rank past Greater is worth planning around.

Core sockets — phys vs mage

Two sockets are almost automatic. The other four rotate with content.

Default openers

Before

Physical / shot kits → Ruby (Soulshot / Beast Soulshot damage) + 'Red Cat's Eye' (P. Atk. / P. Skill crit damage)

After

Magic kits → Sapphire (Spiritshot / Blessed Spiritshot damage) + 'Blue Cat's Eye' (M. Skill crit damage)

Those four jewels are the reason most mid-game brooches look the same in screenshots. Everything below is situational.

GarnetDebuff resistance · Greater adds a cleanse / short immunity skillTower of Insolence and other heavy-debuff hunting zones
'Cat's Eye' (yellow)Reflect-damage resist · chance to bounce debuffs · short invulnerability skillDebuff floors + open-world PvP (extra panic button, reflect resist)
Vital StoneExtra XP while in Vitality · cuts how hard Vita potions burnPower-leveling and daily XP sessions
EmeraldBase stats (CON/MEN early; higher grades deepen the package) · luck / skill-mastery friendly kitsAlmost everyone eventually; touchers, dagger, and bow kits feel it sooner
DiamondP. Def. + normal-crit damage taken reductionYou are a few percent short of standing a spicy PvE spot
PearlM. Def. + M. skill crit taken reductionPvP into mage packs; weak in PvE because caster mobs usually hit soft

AmethystPvP damage up · strips invulnerability / debuff-immunity windowsKiller PvP kits

Example loadouts

Fresh phys farmer
Ruby · Red Cat’s Eye · Opal · Vital Stone · Emerald · Diamond (or Aquamarine if limits matter)
Fresh mage farmer
Sapphire · Blue Cat’s Eye · Opal · Vital Stone · Emerald · Greater Aquamarine
ToI / debuff floors
Keep shot + crit gems · swap in Garnet + Cat’s Eye · Wind Orb later replaces Garnet/Aqua/Vital/Tanzanite bundle
Open-world PvP
Shot/crit gems · Cat’s Eye · Obsidian · Amethyst · Tanzanite or Pearl depending on the lobby
Post-ToI economy
Add Artificial Yellow Amber as soon as Chaotic Ether income is stable — free a slot by folding four utility gems into Wind Orb first if you can

Orbs — slot compressors

Orbs pack several Greater-tier jewel effects into one socket so you can free space for Amber and other modern jewels.

Brooch Orbs

OrbBundlesVerdict
Wind OrbGarnet + Aquamarine + Vital Stone + TanzaniteBest default craft for most accounts
Water OrbRed Cat’s Eye + Blue Cat’s EyeSkip — you want those crit lines as dedicated high-grade jewels
Fire OrbRuby + Sapphire + Diamond + PearlSituational tank/shot mashup; rarely beats keeping Ruby/Sapphire separate
Earth OrbObsidian + Opal + Emerald + TopazPvP / attribute mash — niche
Elemental OrbTime-limited +10% damage / −10% damage taken / +30% XP-SPSkip on work characters; the timer usually expires before it pays for itself

Craft Wind Orb when you can feed it without gutting your active sockets for a week. The goal is one socket for the bundle and a free slot for Amber.

Amber — craft this early

Artificial Yellow Amber (and later Authentic Clear / Blue) is the modern brooch jewel that pushes weapon attack and armor/accessory defense hard for how little Chaotic Ether it costs.

  • Chaotic Ether drops from Chaos-powered mobs — early Tower of Insolence floors are the practical farm once you can stand there.
  • Enchant Amber with Scroll: Enchant Amber via the craft/misc flow. Authentic grades are upgrades, not a reason to delay the first Artificial piece.

Priority

Before

Weak sheet / mid account → Amber lands as a huge relative power spike — craft ASAP

After

Fully stacked late account → still good, but less dramatic; still worth the Ether

Gem reference by job

Start with the effect your build can trigger every hit, then use remaining sockets to solve the content. A high-grade situational gem is not automatically better than the correct lower-grade damage gem.

Loadouts by content

These are templates, not six permanent commandments. Preserve your shot gem and matching Cat's Eye, then rotate utility around the reason you fail.

Orb crafting and upgrade decisions

An Orb is valuable when it compresses effects you would genuinely equip. It is not automatically efficient merely because four names appear on one tooltip.

Before committing materials

QuestionGood answerBad answer
Do I use the bundled effects?Three or four are active in my normal contentOnly one line matters
What socket is freed?Amber or a content-specific defense jewelNo planned replacement
Will ingredients cripple today’s farm?I have replacements or can finish the craft nowMy active Garnet/Aquamarine disappears for days
Can I keep core damage gems?Yes, shot and matching Cat's Eye stay high gradeI am compressing my best damage into a weaker package
Is the Orb permanent?Normal crafted piece fits long-term loadoutsTimed Elemental Orb expires before repayment
  • Craft Wind Orb first on most accounts because Garnet, Aquamarine, Vital Stone, and Tanzanite cover four common utility jobs.
  • Do not assume Orb effects stack with the same standalone gem. The same-type rule still applies; only the strongest matching effect contributes.
  • Compare the actual grades. A compact bundle can lose to a very high standalone Cat's Eye or shot gem, which is why Water and Fire are not default recommendations.

Amber priority ladder

When Amber moves to the front

Account statePriorityReason
Starter brooch below six useful socketsLowUnlock the brooch and core shot/crit/attribute package first
Six sockets, weak weapon/armor sheetHighWeapon attack and armor/accessory defense are large relative gains
Stable early ToI Chaotic Ether incomeVery highThe material loop now funds the intended progression
No free socketWind Orb firstCompression creates Amber space without deleting core damage
Fully stacked late sheetNormalStill useful, but the same flat/percent package is a smaller relative jump
PvP specialistHigh after control gemsDo not remove required Garnet/Cat's Eye protection just to display more sheet

Craft the first usable Artificial Amber instead of waiting for a perfect Authentic version. Upgrade from a working piece. The opportunity cost of months without the stat package is usually larger than the material saved by waiting.

Quick checklist

  • Finish main-quest brooch → Shadai to Lv.5 → Crystal of Dawn into Greater+
  • Socket shot gem + matching Cat’s Eye first; never duplicate types
  • Leveling weeks: Vital Stone in. Debuff zones: Garnet + Cat’s Eye in.
  • Compound toward Greater gems for the set-style brooch passives
  • Craft Wind Orb, then Artificial Yellow Amber from Chaotic Ether
  • Keep enchanting the brooch — easy damage is still damage

FAQ

Where do I get and upgrade the brooch?+

A low-rank 'La Vie En Rose's Brooch' drops out of the main quest line for free. Upgrade ranks at 'Shadai' in Heine (gemstones / Elcyum / Brooch Spirit Stone depending on the step). From Lv.5 upward, take it to a Head Blacksmith in any town with 'Crystal of Dawn' for Greater → Exquisite → Top-grade / Argent, then keep enchanting and augmenting.

Do identical gems stack in the six slots?+

No. Same-type gems (and matching Orbs) only apply the highest-level effect. Fill slots with different jewels unless you are feeding compounds.

What should a new character socket first?+

Phys: 'Ruby' + 'Red Cat's Eye'. Mage: 'Sapphire' + 'Blue Cat's Eye'. Third slot is usually 'Opal' (attribute) or 'Vital Stone' (leveling). Swap 'Garnet' + 'Cat's Eye' in before Tower of Insolence floors that spam heavy debuffs.

Is Amber worth it early?+

Yes. 'Artificial Yellow Amber' (and the authentic variants) is cheap relative to the weapon/armor/accessory attack and defense it adds, and the weaker your sheet, the larger the relative gain. Craft it once 'Chaotic Ether' from early Tower of Insolence is steady.

Which Orb should I craft?+

'Wind Orb' (Garnet + Aquamarine + Vital Stone + Tanzanite package) is the highest-value slot saver for most accounts. Skip 'Water Orb' — you usually want high Red/Blue Cat’s Eyes as standalone pieces. 'Fire Orb' and 'Earth Orb' are niche; the time-limited 'Elemental Orb' is rarely worth burning limited currency on a work character.
